Mortgage bailout labeled 'citizen robbery'

Chuck BaldwinThe presidential candidate of the third-largest political party in the U.S. calls the massive housing bailout signed by President Bush "citizen robbery" and the most expensive bailout since FDR's "New Deal" of the 1930s.
Dr. Chuck Baldwin is running for president on the Constitution Party ticket. He says Americans should be outraged that the U.S. Congress, along with the blessing of President Bush, is committing outright robbery of U.S. citizens with the landmark housing bill that shores up the mortgage finance giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
"This bailout is robbing U.S. citizens in that it is taking from the American citizenry hard-earned tax dollars to bail out the risky adventures of mortgage lenders, which does nothing more than further inflation," he exclaims. "It erodes the buying power of the dollar. It takes from the American taxpayer that which they earned and that which they have invested into the sound economy of our country," Baldwin continues. "And in the end, it will just continue to fuel the economic meltdown."
Baldwin believes the United States has already slipped from being the world's richest nation to being the most "in debt" nation in the history of the world. He believes the American government has an aversion to personal responsibility and is rushing headlong into socialism.

* "Why isn't Baldwin also speaking out against the Bear-Stearns bailout? He's right in one respect: under Bush the United States has become the world's largest debtor nation."
* "I cannot express this enough; PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't listen to the people advising to vote for Dr. Baldwin. I am a devout Christian and agree 100% that he would be a HUGE blessing as president...but you've got to use your heads...he will NEVER rally enough support to win on a third-party nomination and all you are doing by voting for him is throwing your vote away, splitting the Republican/conservative voters in two, and SECURING Obama's place in the White House. PLEASE use your heads..."
* "A very good article and I feel it is so true. The average citizen has no advocate in government. Chuck Baldwin sounds refreshing."
* "Founding Father, James Madison, once had the following to say about using the money of the taxpayers for non-delegated purposes of charity: "[T]he government of the United States is a definite government, confined to specified objects. It is not like the state governments, whose powers are more general. Charity is no part of the legislative duty of the government." -- James Madison "I cannot undertake to lay my finger on that article in the Constitution which granted a right to Congress of expending, on the object of benevolence, the money of their constituents." -- James Madison Do our politicians know more about the provisions of the Constitution than did James Madison, or are our politicians simply more enamored of unconstitutional acts of benevolence?"
* "The housing crisis was allowed to come into being when our government rolled back the regulations that were instituted after the Depression to keep businesses in check. So now that the first mistake has been made, what do you think would happen if Fannie and Freddie had no money and the public lost their confidence in these trillion dollar businesses? Doing nothing to intervene in the situation could cause a meltdown of catastrophic proportions, and while the situation isn't great now, it could have been a lot worse."
* "the mortgage problems arent due to greedy lendors or real estate brokers, its the governments interference in the market. they were only responding to current market conditions. the FED artificially reduced the cost of money below what the market could handle. this is just another example of the government creating a problem and then acting like superheros when they try to save us from them."
* "The poster who condemns realtors needs to realize that they are not the lenders. They merely bring buyer and seller together to make a deal. This issue is squarely on the lenders' shoulders. Most realtors are ethical, though some are geedy. Still, the lender makes the ultimate call of approving loans or not."
* "I like what he has to say on this issue so I am going to look into his position on other issues. Why don't we hear more about this candidate and his party? What could be more American than the Constitution Party. I am sick of the two major parties and there is no way I can vote for either of their nominees."
* "The bailout is a ripoff of the people. The lenders, realtors, and buyers who got us into this mess should get us out of it. If that means they have to lose every last dime, then so be it - They are the ones who got greedy. These are all selfish, greedy people who probably never helped a single person in their entire lives, live above their means, and now they expect help from those of us who are more responsible. Let them deal with the problem they caused."
* "There is a reason this country was founded as a republic not a pure democracy. The masses are satisfied, the rest of us have to accept it."
* "Go Chuck, it is so good to hear some good old common sense. I was against the bail out from the beginning. If companies make bad business deals, they deserve to go out of business. It is not my responsibility to bail them out. Chuck Baldwin has my vote and I hope yours also. Chuck Baldwin will get us on our way to being out of debt. The country is far in debt I don't know if he can do it in 8 years, but we will be far far better off than we are now."
