The Ron Paul groups should be involved in this.

I heartily agree! Hopefully some of the Meetup organizers will read this before the deadline. One problem I see is the Ron Paul primary voters are not eligible to sign the petition since they voted in the primary election. Texas makes it very tough on alternative parties!

RE: Texas Ballot access.
I don't know how close they are to collecting 47,000 signatures, but I do know that they need a lot of help doing it. If you live in Texas and can help them, please contact somebody over at their website http://www.cptexas.org

Texas has had the same chairman for atleast the last 8yrs and has never got on the ballot. It sounds like we need new leadership in Texas.
The GREEN'S get on the state ballot by going to the college's I have never understood why the Constitution Party seems afraid to go to college campus's. After all they are our son's and daughter's.

Big Brown,
Getting on the ballot in Texas is INCREDIBLY difficult and takes a veritable army. Bryan Malatesta has done REALLY WELL with that party and at his own expense. The Green Party and Libertarian Party chairmen get paid...full time...Bryan Malatesta has to work.

The Libertarians are on the ballot. The Greens have 2-3,000 signatures. The Constitution Party has 600 signatures. Need 45,000 signatures to get on the ballot. If the Green's and Libertarian's get payed, why can't the Constitution Party do the same as they had 4yrs to get ready for 2008 ?

Big Brown,
The CP has more than 600 signatures. My latest update from Malatesta says 4-5 thousand signatures, but that isnt nearly enough.Oh,and the Greens have 5000.

RE: Texas Ballot access.
Just to set the record straight, the Constitution Party did get on the Texas ballot in 1996. Of course back then it was called the US Taxpayers Party. But the party didn't run many candidates for statewide office, so it was immediately removed after November 1996. The real trick is to run a full slate of statewide candidates, especially the judicial candidates, since the Democrats usually don't fill their ticket. When there is a statewide race with no Democrat running, any third party in that race can get the needed 5%. But to run a full slate for the judicial statewide races means the party must have some attorneys willing to run, because non-attorneys can't run for Texas Supreme Court of Texas Criminal Court of Appeals. So the party must recruit some attorneys.

The deadline is 26 May to qualify a party for the ballot. Absent a miracle, Texas will be a write-in state.
