Quote:
The three men hoping to unseat longtime U.S. Rep. Roy Blunt think the powerful Missouri congressman's supportive role in the proposed $700 billion financial industry rescue can gain them votes on Nov. 4.

"The tide is starting to turn against him," said Travis Maddox, the Constitution Party candidate from Springfield.

He is quoted again at the end of the article.

RE: Travis Maddox in the Springfield News Leader

I'm working on a press release .......

November 5, 2008 7th District, Missouri

In a stunning defeat, incumbent 7th district Congressman and House Minority Leader, Roy Blunt, lost his seat to Constitution Party candidate, Travis Maddox. Blunts loss is largely attributed to his turning on voters and supporting the massive bailout package and being one of the chief proponents of its passage. Angry voters fired a record 80% of incumbent Congressman this year. Seventh district voter Mary Dobbs said "We have had enough. Bailing out Wall street, while we are struggling to buy gas and groceries was just too much." Grass Roots activists used the internet to rally opposition. One blogger using the acronym 'End the Fed' posted this question "Will America now be more Socialist than Russia?" Many voters joined Newt Gingrich in calling for the firing of Treasury Secretary Paulson, an insider, who wrote the bailout bill and profited over 100 million dollars from Goldman Sachs Bank. Goldman Sachs is one of the companies the bailout was designed to help. "It's a classic case of the fox guarding the hen house," said farmer Todd Earnest, "Reforms are clearly needed to help our economy, but an 850 billion dollar bail out filled with pork that benefits Wall Street and is paid for by middle class Americans like me was not the right answer." When the new Congress convenes they will have a strong message to remember. Go against the voters and you will get fired next election day.
